With Thanks

Today's menu: Hickory Smoked Turkey, Deep Fried Turkey, Cornbread Dressing, Wild Rice Dressing, Collard Greens, Sweet Potato Casserole with Gingersnap Streusel Topping, Macaroni and Cheese, Yeast Rolls, Cranberry Sauce, Iced Tea, Caramel Apple Cheesecake, German Butter Cake, Carrot Cake, Pumpkin Butter Cake, Pecan Pie

Whoa! One holiday meal in our house usually exceeds the legal limits of butter, sugar and cream cheese. This year was no exception. I constantly reminded myself that gluttony is a sin and surprisingly I didn't overeat. I'll have to remember to say that out loud more often.

I must admit, things were not as "perfect" as I'd like for them to be: the rolls didn't brown enough; I made the wrong carrot cake and had to start again; the German Butter cake was on the lean; I didn't have my casserole caddies, decorative platters and serving utensils on hand... but, it was okay! We have so much to be thankful for! I could have much bigger complaints than having to use a plastic serving spoon for the dressing!

I've thoroughly enjoyed the time off this week and am actually dreading the week's end. With only three weeks until Christmas, I guess we can start looking forward to that break. I've done most of my holiday shopping and the menu for Christmas, although not set in stone, is usually much lighter. This weekend we'll start decorating. Call me old fashioned, but I can't bear the thought of eating turkey and looking at Christmas lights. This is my favorite time of the year!
